A double room is available in a homely two-bed in the heart of Oxford. The house includes a large living room with a log burner, an open-plan kitchen, dining area, two bedrooms, one bathroom and a garden hosting a modern outhouse.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL AND MEET THE REQUIREMENTS BEFORE MESSAGING - THANK YOU.

You would live with a laid-back, friendly and clean professional who works from home. The room is available from 22nd August at the latest, but it may be available up to two months earlier depending on the departing housemate’s plans.

Rent £850pp + bills.

THE CONTRACT

The contract will renew on August 23rd for 12 months. The letting agents will require a passport scan and the security deposit (£790) prior to move-in.

After bills (gas, elec and wifi) and council tax (for non-students), I expect both housemates to pay about £975pcm based on expected rates for the upcoming year and the council tax band D.

THE HOUSE

- Fully furnished with both the standard items which came with the house and then my additions (including TV with surround sound, plants, dining table, four-person hammock, the kitchen essentials and much more, most of which are for communal use)
- The first floor is two bedrooms and the bathroom
- Spacious, fully-furnished living area with corner sofa and lots of bookshelves
- Large kitchen space and dining area with more shelves
- Skylight windows flood kitchen and dining area with sunlight
- Log burner at the heart of the house
- Large and vibrant garden with decking, grass, a stunning cherry blossom, a four-person hammock, a fire pit and a BBQ
- Modern outhouse at the end of the garden with power and internet (my office, so I can stay out of the house despite working from home; see 'The Housemate' section)
- Lovely wooden floorboards throughout
- Lots of storage space and an indoor bike rack
- Fibre-optic internet 250Mbps
- Quiet and generous neighbours in a safe and beautiful location; Osney island is a micro-community with boat clubs, our own website, newsletters etc. and offers easy access to great running/walking routes
- The Punter and Hollybush pubs are both 1 min walk away
- The bathroom has an over-bath shower and has two, two-tier storage cupboards

THE ROOM

The room is a medium-sized, classic Oxfordshire terrace house space; room for a queen size bed which can be provided. Located upstairs on the west side of the house with a view over West street, which is a very quiet road. There is also space for a desk which is currently in the room.

The room is the most well-lit, capturing sun light from noon through to the early evening. I have marked the room as furnished as I can provide the desk, clothes racks, bed frame and/or wardrobe for this lease depending on your needs.

THE HOUSEMATE

You’d be living with a Cornishman working as a renewable energy market advisor in a fully remote role. I’m laid back, into music, up for the occasional film night or dinner party, but also comfortable relaxing on my own and respecting your space. I am quiet in general and rarely have people over at anti-social times. I am clean and exercise regularly. I have no dietary requirements but regularly cook veggie or vegan.

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT THE YEAR

I will be working from home in the garden outhouse every weekday, and some weekends, when I am in Oxford. Secondly, my girlfriend often visits and will be submitting her PhD in the summer. At that point, we aim to travel as much as possible, sometimes for weeks at a time. This will be achieved through a combination of house/pet sitting, visiting friends, and staying with family. At this early stage in our planning I can’t quantify the number of weeks that you would have the house to yourself, but we are targeting 10-15 weeks abroad/away before summer 2025.

WHO AM I LOOKING FOR?

I am looking for an individual with similar working hours to myself (9-5) on weekdays, is friendly, very clean and tidy, conscientious and easy-going due to the one-on-one nature of a two-bed house. I would prefer a professional (due to council tax, who is preferably not fully remote like me) with a similar work-life balance to myself, but mature students are welcome to apply also whether or not you wish to contribute to the council tax. You would be okay with my girlfriend visiting, conscious of noise at night, and communicate openly with me whenever needed.

If these are not already in your profile bio, please provide:
- A brief history of yourself
- Occupation and how often you would work/study from home
- Your hobbies
Please also add:
- Your ideal move-in date (between July 1st and August 23rd, or later is possible, but the first rent payment will apply from August 23rd)
- If you have a deadline for finding a property

I’ll try to get back to you as soon as possible. I will likely do video calls in May, and viewings in early June.
